South City 1 Resident’s Welfare Association -SCRWA

South City is unique because people from all walks of life, different professions, and different States of origin with multiple languages and diverse age groups have come together to live here as an extended family.

The Association plays a major role in bringing this group together on important National days of the year, like Republic Day, and festivals like Holi, etcetera.

Let us quickly recapitulate the Association’s formation and its’ journey upward.

Some like-minded residents (to be precise-36) got together at the Unitech Country Club, on the morning of Lohri, January 1994 over breakfast and floated the idea of forming a residents’ Association. Mr. Vikas Rykhye was given the mandate to start the process of formulating the Association. Within two years, the first Residents Directory was published, it contained information about 75 South City residents and twelve from Heights and Rakshak complex, of course, Ivory Towers were not in existence. In the year 2013, SCRWA was re-registered under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act 2012, (Haryana Act No. 1 of 2012).

It is a great sign of development and progress that within 20+ years the number of Residents has increased manifold. South City has acquired the new status of South City 1 because only five kilometers away South City 2 has come up so the differentiation needs to be emphasized while dealing with agencies located in the other regions of NCR.

History of South City 1

Talking of the history of South City 1, the development of the township took place in the 1980s, when Unitech established it as an elite housing area south of Delhi, amongst the first few to venture into the NCR of Delhi. The name was derived from its location with respect to Delhi and with the aim to deviate from the then trend of calling localities ‘Vihar’ or ‘Pur’. The locality pre-establishment of South City was probably just a vast arable land with the presence of the two villages Silokhara and Saini Khera that has now transformed from agricultural settlements to urban villages on the edges of South City 1. Early residents do recall the presence of a water body in the C block area.
